A little bit about us

My family have been in business since the year 1818, 200 years ago. Starting in the town Middleton before moving to Wisbech. Originally making horsedrawn carts etc, before the invention which was the motor vehicle. One of our proudest moments was being asked to build a horsedrawn cart for the then King of England. We built caravans from scratch, delivery carts and so much more! Basically, we could build anything you wanted on wheels. When the motor vehicle became popular, we moved with the times building lorry bodies and taking up specialist sign writing. Wicks were craftsmen at their best!

Wisbech nostalgia

As time went on with the motor trade, we became a franchise dealer for Renault, Fiat & Lancia with 3 sites in Wisbech. In the picture is one of my sons in Jackie Stewart’s Formula 1 car opening our new site on Lynn Road, Wisbech. We are very proud to have been involved with vehicles since they were introduced. I have put a selection of old photos on this website to try and convey the message of our age-old craft and I’m sure if you were born in and around Wisbech they will bring back some nostalgia.

Back to today!

Bringing everything a bit more up to date in 1981 I left the family business and bought a site on Elm High road, Wisbech (where we still are today) and opened shop! A small garage starting with bodywork and mechanical repairs. It was extremely hard at first but with a lot of hard work and working 7 days a week even Christmas Day it started to succeed. In 1990 my son, Justin came to work for me and together we purchased an old coal yard next door to the garage expanding our workshop. In 1997 my youngest son Ben, came to work for me as well. In the early 2000’s we started car sales. The garage is now managed by Justin and Ben working alongside a very strong and loyal team of staff!

The name WICKS has been associated with vehicles since 1818 when our ancestors started making bodywork for various vehicles through three generations. We are very proud of our family heritage and longevity of the business.

Now I run the garage with my skilled workforce including my two sons Justin and Ben, my wife Penny and daughter-in-law Amey. In addition we have fully trained and professional staff in all areas of our business.
